Catalog description: A preparatory course in elementary algebra which includes rational numbers, polynomials, algebraic
operations, first-degree equations, graphing, systems of linear equations,
problem-solving and an introduction to quadratic equations.

Each class will consist of 1-1/4 hours of instruction. Attendance is strongly
recommended, will be taken at the beginning of the class, and will
affect your grade. Please don’t be late.
Grading policy: Your
final grade (A, B, C, D, F) depends on more than just
passing or failing the final exam. Do
not think you can ignore homework, attendance and
quizzes and pass the course on the final exam alone. On the other hand, if you do not pass
the final exam, it is unlikely that you will pass the course.
Five Tests (approximately 45
minutes apiece) will each count for 10%, Quiz Total: 50%. (Makeup
quizzes may be arranged only when exceptional reasons prevent you from
taking the quiz as scheduled. You must
provide a written explanation of the reason and all quizzes must
be made up prior to the next class session.) Homework, attendance, class participation – total 15%. Final Exam 35%.
Honesty policy: Cheating on a quiz or the final exam
may be punishable in the discretion of the instructor by confiscation of the
quiz or the final exam and the entry of a grade of zero (0), or, in extreme cases,
by referral to the Dean of Students for appropriate discipline in accordance
with the Student Code of Conduct up to and including expulsion.
